Tracks 1 - 4: Recordings made on board the Down 'Waverley' between Hellifield and Appleby and from the lineside at Dent and Ribblehead. Recorded in the November of 1960 and 1961. A record of the journey between Leeds and Carlisle in the November of 1960, the 'Jubilee' class 4-6-0 No. 45573 Newfoundland is on a journey with the down train. Running between London St. Pancras and Edinburgh Waverley, 'The Waverley' ran during each weekday and these vibrant stereo recordings were captured, as if from a seat facing the engine.

Tracks 5 - 8: Recordings made on the Footplate of Locomotives of the following Classes - 'Britannia' Class Pacific, Class 'A.3.' Pacific, Class 'B.12' 4-6-0 & Class 'A.4.' Pacific. Recorded in the October of 1956 and in March 1958.

Volume three is titled Dramatic Pictures with a justifiable reason. Peter Handford's stunning stereo recordings of 'Jubilee' class 4-6-0 No. 45573 Newfoundland's journey on the Settle-Carlisle Line captures the dynamism of steam in full glorious flow. The magnificence of the landscape the Newfoundland passes is echoed in the majesty of the sound of the engine being given free rein to come into its own. On the footplate brings back to life the intense every day noise, activity and conversation in the cab during all weather services on the cherished 'Pacifics' in the fifties. Recordings that place you standing side-by-side with the crew as they capably run the trains out from Ipswich station, Peterborough North and through Finsbury Park into King's Cross.
